Leisure? Check your UTV with these simple steps

As we saw in the previous post, in addition to continuing to work at full capacity on farms and agricultural and livestock work to supply us with food, CORVUS UTVs are also helping in the disinfection of streets and public spaces.

But if you are one of those who Coronavirus containment measures They are forcing you to give your UTV a rest, we bring you some general, basic and very easy to carry out checks so that, in addition to having a fun time without leaving home, you can verify that everything is in perfect condition.

Since it hasn't moved for several days, before starting it is very important that you visually check for possible leaks. As well as the location, amount and leaked product (attention to the danger of fire) of them. It is very important to have leaks or product losses controlled and identified, and give them priority for repair.

In case there is no leak, now we begin the general check of our UTV. To carry out a more exhaustive check in terms of levels and measurements, we recommend you have the User Manual for the brand and model on hand.

OIL LEVEL

To check that the level is adequate, open the cap, remove the oil dipstick, clean it with a cloth, insert it again and remove it again to check the impregnation level.

COOLANT LIQUID

Another tank that you can buy is the coolant tank. In this case, with the naked eye we can see the amount of liquid.

TIRES

Check that the tires are not worn, cracked, or injured, and that both have the same appearance and level of wear both on the inside and outside; irregular wear means poor alignment.

Check that the wear limit on the tire tread does not exceed 3,5 mm in depth.

Also verify that they are at the correct pressure. This will depend on the UTV model and its weight, as each manufacturer recommends a pressure level. At CORVUS we recommend that all of our UTV tires have a pressure of:

– 1,0 bar (empty vehicle).

– 1,5 bar (fully loaded vehicle).

If you have a spare wheel, also verify that it is in perfect condition to be used.

BRAKE DISCS

Visually you can see significant scratches, cracks, excess wear, etc.

Verify that the thickness of both discs is at least 3,5 mm. This check is very important and may affect your safety.

BRAKE PADS

Check the thickness of the lining they have left, ensuring that the thickness of the lining should not be less than 1,5 mm. If this occurs, we do not recommend that you drive the vehicle. And give it priority when you take your UTV to the official repair service.

BRAKE FLUID

A very important section for your UTV is keeping the brake system in perfect condition. Check the fluid level and if it is outside the limits indicated on the reservoir, check the thickness of the brake pads and make sure that they have not reached their use limit.

Once these elements have been checked, it is time to start our vehicle and, with the ignition on, check the following points:

DRUMS

Check that when starting it does not make strange sounds or have difficulty starting. If your UTV is going to remain completely stopped for more than a week, it is highly advisable that to conserve the battery you start it and wait approximately 10 minutes. This way you will warm up the engine and prevent the battery from losing power.

INSTRUMENT PANEL

In the rush of everyday life we overlook taking a leisurely look at the instrument panel. Start your UTV and check that there are no error messages, or any data or warnings being displayed abnormally. Check the indicators for changing lights, turn signals, time adjustment, etc.

LIGHTING AND SIGNALING

Check that all the bulbs in the lighting and signaling system are working correctly. If you detect that any of them are melted, and you have a replacement at home, turn off the vehicle and wait for them to cool before replacing them.

WIPER WASHER

First, check that the fluid level is correct.

To check the operation of the windshield, pour enough water on the glass so that the wiper blade slides smoothly. Activate it and check that it cleans the surface correctly. Over time and use, the blades can wear out and lose their ability to clear the windshield of rain, mud or dust.

SEAT BELTS

It may be one of the things we look at the least, but if the belt closure or webbing is dirty or damaged, the belt tongue will not engage properly and can endanger your safety. Take advantage of these days to clean the closures and belt strap well.

Finally, another task you can do is to check the validity of the entire DOCUMENTATION of your UTV. Check payment receipts, insurance status, etc. We usually forget to take a look at the papers, and it is very important to keep everything in order and verified.

In general, take advantage of these days to do a general cleaning of your UTV, both inside and outside. Check that all the nuts and screws that you see with the naked eye are tight, that the fasteners are in place and in good condition, and that there are no elements at risk of detachment (mudguards, side plastics, tanks, etc.).

As we have said, take note of everything you have observed that can be adjusted or replaced, and as soon as that situation passes, and before getting back on the road, take your UTV to the official repair service.

At CORVUS we are as eager as you are to get back on the road, and we want that return to be in the best possible way.
