Electric UTVs in Golf: A Guide to Operations and Maintenance on Professional Sports Courses

The perfect golf course doesn't just happen. Behind every immaculate green and every well-marked fairway is a team of greenkeepers who have been working for hours before the first player arrives. Before dawn, they're already on the course: treating surfaces, checking the irrigation system, replenishing sand in the bunkers, adjusting the greens' cuts according to the day's moisture. And to do all that, they need to move. Quickly, quietly, laden with tools, along narrow paths between holes, over damp grass, in the dark.

This is one of the reasons why we have developed the Terrain EX4The EX4 is our all-electric UTV, specifically designed for environments where minimizing environmental impact is essential. On golf courses, polo fields, racetracks, and other sporting circuits across Europe, the EX100 has become the go-to tool for professional maintenance operations.

European golf is moving towards electric mobility

Golf is one of the most demanding sports in terms of facility maintenance. An 18-hole course can extend over dozens of hectares requiring daily and specialized attention: the greens need precise mowing and irrigation, the fairways require regular fertilization and aeration, the rough needs constant maintenance, and the bunkers must be perfectly level every day.

All this activity generates a constant movement of personnel and equipment within the facility. And more and more European clubs, in Spain, Portugal, France, and Italy, are making the same decision: to make that movement electric.

The reasons are clear. Golf is a quiet sport. The Rules of Golf require that the playing environment be free from noise interference during a shot. A combustion engine vehicle driving near a hole in play disrupts that experience. An electric UTV does not. Furthermore, a club's environmental image is part of its brand value: players perceive and value a well-managed environment, and the fleet of work vehicles visible on the course reinforces that message.

Our EX4: Built to work where others can't

El Terrain The EX4 is, in our own definition, "probably the best professional heavy-duty UTV on the market." Its performance isn't based on mere claims, but rather on specific design decisions in the chassis, suspension, and drivetrain, all aimed at maintaining control and performance in conditions where other vehicles are limited.

For operations in sports fields, this translates into very concrete advantages:

  • Autonomy designed for the working day. The 15 kWh LFP battery allows for a range of up to 100 km in Range mode, easily covering a full day of maintenance in most facilities. In Power mode, performance adapts to the intensity of use, providing the necessary response for more demanding tasks.

With a homologated maximum speed of 40 km/h (EU T1a), the EX4 combines autonomy, control and regulatory compliance to operate safely within sporting environments.

  • No direct emissions. 48V AC induction motor, no combustion, no exhaust fumes. The EX4 can operate alongside players, animals, or spectators without impacting the environment.
  • Real operating silence. Unlike any diesel or gasoline engine, the EX4's induction motor generates minimal noise. Greenkeeping equipment can operate during play hours, before dawn, or in sensitive areas without disrupting the facility's operations.
  • Real traction and capability on any terrain. Wet grass, slopes, and uneven dirt roads are no obstacle. The selectable 4x2/4x4 drive system, along with the rear differential lock, ensures grip and control in demanding conditions.

This capability is provided by an independent double wishbone suspension with 287 mm of travel and a ground clearance of 309 mm, allowing for stable and precise work throughout the year.

  • Load and towing capacity for real work. Sand for bunkers, fertilizer, maintenance tools or portable irrigation equipment: the EX4's steel rear box allows you to transport up to 300 kg in a single trip.

Furthermore, its towing capacity of up to 755 kg (Low) and 479 kg (High), along with the front hitch and 2″ tow ball included as standard, expand its use for tasks that require moving additional material without the need for another vehicle.

  • Less Maintenance. The EX4's electrical design eliminates key elements of traditional maintenance (oil, filters, belts, exhaust system and complex transmission).

With fewer components subject to wear, the vehicle requires less intervention and reduces downtime. In maintenance operations, the impact is direct: more actual field work time and greater vehicle availability.

Three versions for each type of operation

We offer the EX4 in three configurations, to adapt the equipment to the working environment of each facility:

  • Equipped with EPS assisted management, 4x4/4x2 system, rear differential lock, cargo box, underbody protection, basic roof, adjustable bench seat, three-point seat belts, front hitches and tow ball, adjustable shock absorbers, cup holders and rearview mirrors.
  • Everything in the BASE model plus front and rear windshields, front windshield wiper, under-seat storage drawers, and interior rearview mirror. The most balanced option for everyday outdoor work.
  • Our most complete equipment: everything from the PRO plus side doorsrubber footrest, courtesy light, front glass heated and front trunk. Also available with the pack CAB Heater with heatingThe version recommended for cold climates or for operations during times when the enclosed cabin makes a difference.
If you want to further customize the vehicle for your installation, in our section of Optional accessories for the EX4 You'll find the complete catalog.

Beyond golf: polo, racetracks and circuits

The same arguments that make the EX4 the benchmark vehicle in golf apply with equal logic in other high-performance sporting environments.

En polo fieldsThe maintenance work on the arena takes place alongside the presence of horses in training. The absence of noise and emissions from the EX4 allows operations to continue without interrupting equestrian activities.

En racetracksTrack maintenance and internal logistics often take place in the early morning hours when the animals are active. A quiet electric vehicle minimizes the impact on this environment.

En sports circuitsInternal logistics on unpaved terrain require real traction and underbody protection. The EX4's EU T1a homologation regulates its use on private premises of this type.

For sports fields where silence, zero emissions, and a sustainable image are part of the product, the EX4 is our recommendationFor extensive outdoor operations without environmental restrictions, the DX4 and DX4s are the answer.
